The BC Wildlife Federation developed the Artist of the Year program in 1992 to select an artist whose work exhibits the beauty of BC's fish, wildlife and habitat. This year, the BC Wildlife Federation received a record number of submissions from local artists around British Columbia. The 6 final works of art were judged at the BCWF Annual Convention held April 29 to May 2 in Nelson, BC. The winning piece, "Headwaters" was painted by Eric Renk from New Denver, BC. This will be reproduced and used to raise money for the BC Wildlife Federation and its member clubs. The artist is recognized with an honorarium. The BCWF is the largest and longest standing, province-wide, voluntary and locally funded conservation organization in British Columbia and is the voice of conservation-committed hunters and anglers. The BCWF consists of 30,000 members and 125 clubs in all areas of the province.
